Welcome to the Trauma Center: Your road to recovery
The word trauma (from the Greek) literally means wound, injury, damage from external violence. Today, "trauma" is used to represent both the traumatic event (the incident), and the traumatic experience itself (I have trauma) (NCTSN).
For us, Trauma is not necessarily the event, but is primarily about the personal, unique experience and the impact on the person.
Trauma is that which causes dissociation (Howell, 2020).
